GCON took a vacant old Food City store and re-purposed it into a new charter school to serve the educational needs of approximately 400 homeless children in the area. GCON was brought on late into the Design phase. When permitting was being issued, the owner removed the lead architect because of numerous design issues. GCON provided Design-Build assistance to correct the issues and resolve schedule and budget challenges while bringing on a new design partner and regrouping the sub consultants. With the building structurally intact, only a few minor deficiencies needed correcting exteriorly, along with an update to the facade of the building to represent an educational facility. New doors, windows, canopies and roof were also part of the exterior update. The interior build-out included all new plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems as well as the development of administration, classrooms, science and computer labs, library and cafeteria. Extensive site work included civil redesign, parking, playground and athletic field areas.
